Lake Fork is easily one of the most popular fishing lakes in the state of Texas, and many would argue the entire United States. Each year, a large number of fishing tournaments are held on the waters of the lake. It is easy to understand just why when you look at the history of the lake and the number of very large and impressive fish that have been caught throughout the years. While there are a number of tournaments that are popular, two of the biggest standouts include the Skeeter Owner’s Tournament and the McDonald’s Big Bass Splash.
The Skeeter Owner’s Tournament
This tournament is now entering its 27th year and it is going stronger than ever. The event brings thousands of Skeeter owners from far and wide to honor the first bass boat. Of course, these owners are not just traveling to proclaim their love for Skeeter. Many of them want to participate in the tournament, which provides them with the chance to win up to $200,000 in cash and prizes. This year, the tournament is going to be held from June 11 to June 14.
The entry fee for the tournament is $120 per person per tournament and will cover one person for two competition days. The tournament is held regardless of what the weather conditions might be during these days, so make sure you are prepared.
This is an individual tournament rather than a team tournament. However, up to three anglers can be in a single boat, but they all need to register. There are ladies’ and juniors’ divisions, as well.
McDonald’s Big Bass Splash
The Big Bass Splash will be taking place from September 18 to 19 this year, and it promises to be a massive event. There is $516,000 in cash and prizes available. The winner is going to drive away with a new boat, a Dodge Ram truck, and $7,000 in cash. The rest of the prizes are just as impressive. In fact, the second-place winner will also receive a boat, a truck, and $2,000 in cash. There are payouts for the heaviest bass, as well, with the heaviest bass earning $1,500. The 15th heaviest bass will still receive $250, which is quite impressive. It’s easy to see why this is one of the biggest and most popular tournaments.
There are plenty of other festivities and prizes that will be given away during the event, as well. It should be a lot of fun for everyone attends. The entry fee for a single day is $160. Two days is $210, and entry for all three days is $260. Keep in mind that the entry fee is nontransferable and nonrefundable.
Always Book as Soon as Possible
These two popular tournaments are only getting more popular each year. This means that it has become more and more difficult to book for these tournaments the closer they get. In fact, most people will book for the next year when they are checking out of the current tournament!
If you want to take part in one of the tournaments, you will want to book as soon as you can. The longer you wait, the more likely the spots are all going to be filled. Keep in mind that while they both fill up quickly, the Skeeter books even faster than McDonald’s. If you haven’t booked yet, do it right now. If you find out that you’ve missed the chance this year, get ready to book for next year right when the current tournament ends. You can be sure that those spots are going to go very quickly.
